Over the past year, Green Mountain commissioned Menon Economics to conduct three reports analyzing the economic impact of our data centers in Rjukan, Rennesøy, and Enebakk. The key findings from these studies have now been compiled into a single, aggregated report — now available in English.
The report demonstrates that the three data centers have contributed a total value added of NOK 5.6 billion and supported 3,600 full-time equivalents (FTEs).
The analysis is based on actual investment and operational cost data provided by Green Mountain, ensuring a high degree of accuracy. In addition to value-added effects and employment, the report also examines the effects of employee spending, tax contributions, and broader societal impacts on the surrounding municipalities.
Key findings include:
- The three data centers have supported value added amounting to 5,6 billion NOK
- Approximately 70 percent of the value-added effects are indirect effects.
- The three data centers have supported 3 600 FTEs where approximately half of the employment effects have occurred in the local municipalities
- 85 percent of the employment effects are indirect effects
- The employees’ local spending has resulted in employment effects equivalent to an additional 200 FTEs in the local municipalities.
- The three data centers have contributed a total of NOK 450 million in tax revenues.
The report from Menon Economics reveals the growing importance of data centers to the Norwegian economy.

“This report confirms that data centers are not just about servers and infrastructure — they generate real value for people, communities, and the national economy,” says Halvor Bjerke, Managing Director Nordics at Green Mountain. “We’re especially proud of the strong local impacts, where our operations help create jobs, tax revenue, and innovation.”
