Green Mountain and German energy provider KMW have signed a long-term agreement with an international company for 36 MW of data center capacity at the new FRA-Mainz campus, now under construction near Frankfurt.
A flagship in sustainable infrastructure
The FRA-Mainz campus (a 50/50 joint venture between Green Mountain, an Azrieli Group company, and KMW) sets a new standard for environmental performance:
- The site will be powered by 100% renewable energy from KMW’s wind and solar portfolio.
- Gas-turbine emergency power replaces traditional diesel backup.
- Efficient cooling will be provided by the nearby Rhine River as a cooling source.
- Surplus heat from the facility will feed Mainz’s district-heating network via heat-pump technology, serving up to 20 000 households, the Mainz Cathedral, and Mewa Arena.
Together, these measures will ensure minimal CO₂ emissions and a strong commitment to environmental responsibility.
“This anchor agreement demonstrates the trust global market leaders place in our delivery model and our commitment to truly sustainable, large-scale data center infrastructure,” said Svein Atle Hagaseth, EVP & Chief Business Officer, Green Mountain Global.
Capacity will be handed over in stages across roughly 3.5 years.
