Green Mountain Publishes 2024 Sustainability Report

We are happy to announce that Green Mountain’s 2024 Sustainability Report is now available. The report highlights key achievements, ambitious goals, and continued progress in driving environmental responsibility across the data center sector.

“As a critical part of the digital ecosystem, we recognize our duty to lead the way in sustainable innovation,” says Chief Sustainability Officer, Torkild Follaug. “While data centers do present environmental challenges, they also hold great potential for climate solutions. By adopting green technologies and fostering collaboration, we believe data centers can, in fact, make the world greener.”

Report Highlights

The 2024 report marks Green Mountain’s fourth annual sustainability update and reflects a year of significant growth and development. The company is now transitioning from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), further strengthening its commitment to transparency and accountability.

Key highlights from the 2024 report include:

  • 100% Renewable Energy: Green Mountain continues to power all its data centers with 100% renewable energy, backed by Guarantees of Origin.
  • Improved Energy Efficiency: Comprehensive energy reviews were launched at all sites in operation for more than a year, enabling targeted improvements and deeper insight into operational efficiency.
  • Significant Water Reduction: Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) dropped to 0.39—a 37% reduction from 2023—thanks to water-saving initiatives implemented across operations.
  • Biodiversity Initiatives: Restoration of natural forest buffers at OSL-Enebakk and a new bat monitoring program using acoustic detectors at SVG-Rennesøy reflect Green Mountain’s focus on local biodiversity.
  • Employee Engagement: Employee satisfaction scored 5.01 out of 6, reflecting a strong culture of care and inclusion. A structured onboarding program ensures that new team members feel welcomed and supported from day one.
  • GHG Emissions Reduction: The LON-East facility in the UK achieved nearly a 50% reduction in combined Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, largely due to targeted efforts to reduce F-gas leakage.
  • Certifications Achieved: In 2024, Green Mountain successfully obtained ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management) certifications.
  • Diversity Milestone: Female representation increased from 20% in 2023 to 26% in 2024, with gender representation now achieved across all departments.

Looking Ahead

As digitization and AI continue to drive exponential demand for digital infrastructure, Green Mountain remains steadfast in its mission to set the green standard in the industry. The 2024 Sustainability Report underscores the company’s belief that environmental responsibility, technological advancement, and business growth can—and must—go hand in hand.
