Green Mountain UK acquires freehold of Romford data center campus

LON1-Romford Site, Green Mountain

Green Mountain has taken another important step in the UK with the acquisition of the freehold for its data center campus in Romford, East London.

This move gives us full ownership of the 8-acre site and strengthens our long-term commitment to the UK market. It also gives us greater flexibility to develop the campus further in line with growing demand.

Building for the future in Lon-East

The Romford campus, also known as LON-East data center, plays an important role in our UK platform. Today, 7 MW has been operational on the site since 2010, and an additional 14 MW has been delivered recently. In total, the campus has a planned capacity of 37 MW.

With full control of the site, we will continue to operate the existing data center while unlocking the remaining capacity. This allows us to support increasing demand from AI, hyperscale, and enterprise customers in and around London.

“Securing the freehold of our Romford site gives us long-term control over a strategically important data center campus in one of the world’s most important connectivity hubs.”

Well-positioned in a key connectivity hub

The LON-East data center benefits from strong connectivity and close proximity to London’s core digital infrastructure hubs, including Docklands and the City of London. This makes it well-suited for customers who depend on reliable, scalable, and energy-efficient infrastructure.

We will continue to invest in the site, including developing capacity that is ready for both hyperscale and AI workloads.

Part of a wider growth strategy

The acquisition is also part of our broader growth plans in the UK. We are actively exploring new opportunities in the London region to expand our footprint and support the next wave of digital infrastructure demand.

At the same time, this reflects our wider ambition across Europe: to deliver secure, scalable, and sustainable data center capacity in key markets.
