The Economic Impact of Undheim

A new analysis by Menon Economics estimates that the development and operation of Green Mountain’s data center at Undheim could generate significant economic activity, employment and value creation in Norway.

Green Mountain is developing a new data center at Undheim in Time municipality, Rogaland. The facility is planned with a total power capacity of 100 MW and is expected to create around 100 permanent on-site jobs.

Beyond the direct jobs

In addition to these direct jobs, the project is expected to generate wider economic impacts through purchases from suppliers and increased activity across relevant industries. Menon Economics has analyzed the estimated effects of both the construction and operational phases of the data center.

Economic impact during construction

During the construction phase, the project is estimated to support approximately 4,700 full-time equivalents (FTEs) in Norway, including close to 1,300 in Rogaland. The construction phase is also estimated to contribute NOK 5.9 billion in total value creation.

Long-term effects from operations

Once the data center is fully operational, the activity is estimated to support around 135 FTEs and generate NOK 1.3 billion in annual value creation in Norway. The analysis also estimates that operations could support NOK 155 million in annual tax revenues.

The findings illustrate how the establishment of a data center can create activity beyond the facility itself, including opportunities for suppliers within construction, technical services, maintenance and professional expertise.
