In an industry not normally known for its ‘environmental and sustainability’ credentials Green Mountain Data Centre in Norway are very pleased to be shortlisted for a’ Sustainability Champions Award’ .
In addition the facility known as ‘The Greenest Data Centre in the World’ has been aknowledged by their peers in Green IT being shorlisted in ‘Sustainability Design Project of the Year’.
What makes this sustainability nomination so exciting for Green Mountain is that it was not selected by people from the data centre industry but instead by a sustainability group called 2Degrees. As a result Green Mountain is competing in building projects in other industries where sustainability has been on the agenda for some time.
The Green IT Award is specific to the IT Industry.
The reason for these shortlistings, setting Green Mountain apart from other entrants ,is the unique design and construction of the Green Mountain Data Centre including reusing an existing building, zero carbon footprint, fjord cooling and local hydo power generation minimising transmission losses.
The outcome will be determined by members votes so we look forward to the results!
